I've been listening to The Moment podcast since it launched this past summer. Even though it wrapped up in September, and there were just 12 episodes, I've been hoarding them and have three left un-listened.
When I'm having a rough day, or I've listened to one too many true crime podcasts, this happy podcast is a breath of fresh air. So, even though I could binge-listen to the rest of the episodes right now, I won't.
The Moment is a show about relationships and the (often) bumpy road to happiness. It's about "the moment" when a couple knows they're in love, "the moment" when one of them pops the question, and "the moment" when love finally wins out.
Yes, this show is kind of sappy, and always has a happy ending.
Which is what I love about it.
Listening to The Moment is like watching a movie on the Hallmark channel: Right from the beginning, you know that the couple is going to end up together. You can even identify the obstacle that will stand in their way, but you know that they'll overcome it all and live happily ever after.
All that predictability doesn't stop me from watching the damn movie (and all the commercials), which is why Hallmark can run marathons and replay the same movies week after week.
It's a similar thing with The Moment. I'm on-board to tag along for each couple's journey, knowing in advance that it will end well.
The Moment features stories of couples who had to overcome fear of commitment, religious differences, financial struggles, and familial drama and objections. Don't let the cover art or show description fool you: this is not a show about heterosexual couples only.
Some stories are heavier than others, with greater challenges and fewer "cute" moments, but that's where host Ingrid Haas comes in.
Haas is an actress with a background in comedy, and her approach to unraveling each couple's story keeps the show light and funny. Haas weaves in some of her own relationship experiences, and has a sarcastic, self-deprecating sense of humor that comes across as sweet, not snarky.
Although each episode is technically an interview with both parts of the couple, it's done in tightly edited storytelling format that is entertaining.
The best thing about The Moment is that the episodes all stand alone; you can pick any random one and listen, completely out of order. Episodes of The Moment average 45 - 50 minutes and are available for free in all podcast players.
The worst thing about The Moment? It's not coming back for another season, so work through the episodes slowly. I recommend always having one downloaded, so you can get a fix of saccharine happiness when you're having a bad day.
